Frederick W. Sturckow
NASA Astronaut Guest Speaker
Frederick W. "Rick" Sturckow (Major, USMC and Nasa Astronaut)
was born in La Mesa, CA in 1961 but
considers Lakeside, CA to be his howetown. He obtained a
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from
California Polytechnic State University in 1984.
He is a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots,
Marine Corps Association.
Among his other experiences are jobs as a tractor repairman,
a race car mechanic and driver, a marine pilot including 41
missions during Operation Desert Storm, and is a graduate of
"Top Gun."
He was selected by NASA in 1994. He flew on STS-88 in 1998,
the first Internation Space Station Assembly mission, logging
over 283 hours in space.
