Graphite From the Alaska


2-cm nodule of flaky graphite in porphyritic
granite from Julian Creek, 27 miles southeast of Flat, Alaska.

Cut and polished section of the porphyritic granite
matrix showing phenocrysts of quartz, feldspar, and mica.
Tiny graphite flakes are also included in the intergranular
cement and as interlayer inclusion in the mica crytsals.
