Conical Nanotube Bundles Feature as Journal Cover Image
December 17, 2009
Revised February 18, 2010
Conical arrays of carbon nanotubes developed by the Yap research group have been featured on the cover image of Carbon (issue 48/3, 2010). These nanotubes are catalyst free and their tips are opened. They self-assemble into bundles after the tip etching process. The technique was developed by former graduate students including Lakshman Kumar Vanga and Jitendra Menda in 2004. Recently, these nanostructures were found to have enhanced properties for electron field emission, a quantum phenomenon applicable for high brightness flat panel displays. The related result on field emission was published by graduate students Archana Pandey, Abhishek Prasad, Jason Moscatello and Benjamin Ulmen in issue 48/1 of the journal. Carbon is a journal published by Elsevier with an impact factor among the highest in the field of materials science
