Physics Computing Usage Policy
Last updated August 17, 2006.
- Only Physics graduates and undergraduates may use the Physics Computing
Lab, and also people taking a physics course that has a computer fee. Please
do NOT let your friends into the room—there are only 11 seats available for
80 physics majors.
- If you are a non-Physics major taking a physics course that has a computing
fee, you can use the room only when permitted to by the instructor, and then
only to do the assigned computer work.
- DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ON THE PCs UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. This includes
copying executables to the drive. Contact the
Physics System Administrator to request an installation.
- You may lock a PC for 10 minutes only.
- Be careful with food and beverages. Please eat only in the lounge area.
- Do not reboot or power down computers or the printer.
- Keep the door fully shut and locked at all times.
- If you are the last to leave after 5:00 pm, turn out the lights and make
sure the door is shut.
- Remember to log out of all computers.
- Do not try to fix computers or printers yourself.
- You may add paper to the printer. Contact the
Physics System Administrator to get more paper.
- Collect printouts immediately if possible.
- If you believe someone has locked a computer for more than 10 minutes, contact the
CEC to have it unlocked.
- Be kind about giving up your seat to someone who needs to do coursework,
as that person will eventually be you.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Human beings are perhaps never more frightening
than when they are convinced beyond doubt that
they are right.
